The advent of the Fifteenth Doctor is almost upon us! We look forward to this year’s Christmas special by having an in-depth conversation with showrunner Russell T Davies. Plus we bid a warm welcome to new producer Chris May, and look back at the classic series’ many title sequences.

Rebel Moon

Zack Snyder’s Dirty Dozen-in-space underdog tale (the first part of which, A Child of Fire, drops on Netflix on 22 December) started off as a Star Wars pitch, but has since grown into a richly-detailed universe all of its own. We speak to the director (plus producer Deborah Snyder) for an eight-page feature.

Wonka

Oompa-Loompa, doobedy-doo, we’ve got some Wonka coverage too... sorry, that’s the full extent of our lyrical inspiration. Director/co-writer Paul King tells us about imagining the early life of the child-maiming chocolatier for the new Timothée Chalamet-starring prequel movie.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

A roaring Godzilla.

Godzilla and co are currently trampling the small screen in this new TV series. We speak to producer Matt Fraction about creating a more human-focused spin on kaiju carnage.

Mark Gatiss has once again adapted a classic short story for the Beeb. This year it’s the time of Arthur Conan Doyle’s mummy tale “Lot No 249”. We visited the set and, er, stood in a cupboard. It’s a glamorous life.

The Lazarus Project

Concept designs for the Time Break Initiative base in The Lazarus Project.

As regular readers will know, we love a good production design feature. In our latest celebration of behind-the-scenes craft, we quiz The Lazarus Project producer Julian Murphy about creating the Time Break Initiative’s subterranean base for series two.

But that’s not all, features-wise. We also celebrate 40 years of Discworld, talk to screenwriter Michael Kennedy about the punningly-titled slasher/Frank Capra mash-up It’s a Wonderful Knife, talk to award-winning novelist Geoff Ryman about his first book in 17 years, and get Patrick Rothfuss to fill in our author questionnaire.

Red Alert

And the big features are just the tip of the iceberg! As ever, our news section, Red Alert, is crammed with insights into yet more movies, TV shows, comics and books. In the spotlight this month:  ‘40s-era Big G movie Godzilla Minus One; festive special Merry Little Batman; and new Star Wars, Hellboy and X-Men comics.
